Oh, Tannenbaum

December 10, 2008
This post shall be known as the post in which Renee and Joe take you on a tour of their Christmas tree! (Except for the part where Joe has no idea I’m writing this… but it just sounds better if you believe we’re both involved, right?) The photo above is not our Christmas tree, but the Christmas trees in Union Station. We wish our living room had ceilings that high. A kind lady offered to take our picture as we acted like suburban tourists in the big city. Then a kind hobo offered to take the picture with the kind lady in it as well. I think he was probably just offering to take the camera…A message from our sponsors: Before we introduce you to our tree, we have a score that needs to be settled. Joe and Renee have no idea what the term “rickrolled” means. Renee thinks it has something to do with rap music, Joe believes it has something to do with Congress. Please advise. Thank you.

Without further ado…

———-
This is our tree in its entirety. It’s blue and gold, after both our alma maters.
(It’s also a pathetic hand-me-down artificial tree. Don’t judge.) And yes, there are three stockings hanging above the fireplace. The little one is for the kitty Gus.
———-
This is a snowman I made out of Leinenkugel bottle caps. You can buy him on my Etsy shop for $2!
———-
This is a star I made out of Landshark bottle caps. It is not for sale because it’s going in my mom’s stocking. Don’t tell her, okay?

———-
This is J-Rex the Christmasaurus. The J stands for Jesus. Sarah Palin may or may not believe Jesus and dinosaurs existed at the same time.
———-
This is George the Nutcracker. Renee bought a nutcracker for Joe and told him he had to name it. He named it George.

———-
Correctly assuming George the Nutcracker was named after the Beatle, Renee decided to name the pretty bluebird she bought for herself after her favorite Beatle: Paul. Now who wants to get us a peace dove we can name John and a little drummer boy we can name Ringo?
———-

After decorating our tree, we discovered we didn’t have a tree topper. Joe is very particular about tree toppers. He said he’ll know the right one when he sees it. Frustrated, Renee put Joe’s Santa hat atop the tannenbaum. Joe liked it. They decided it shall become a Christmas tradition.
———-
Last but not least, this isn’t an ornament, but he likes to chew on the tree so we figure he counts… Gus the Santa cat. He’s very festive, isn’t he?

haha I was watching the Macy’s parade with my family and jumped outa my chair when Rick Astley randomly popped up. None of them understood when I tried to explain that it felt like a RL version of a viral.

Thank you Wiki for confirming the RL rickroll. Woot

BTW – GORGEOUS tree. I love the way you decorated it. (And I’m pretty sure I have the exact same handdown style artificial. lol)

My Mom used to have a ton of little Christmas doves that looked very similar to Paul. However, I stole them all as a child so now she has none. What did I do with all of those doves? I have NO clue.

Y’alls Christmas tree looks a lot happier than mine. Like you, I also opted for a fake tree. (I was afraid Lucy Belle would eat a real one, or worse, attack.) It sits atop my dining room table, and I have 10 ornaments. All from Target and no sentimental value whatsoever.

… Basically, what I’m trying to say, is that your tree is fantastic. And I love the Santa hat tradition you’ve started this year. (:

I have my own Santa Cat, too. She loves hanging out underneath the tree. Want to know why I call her Santa Cat? It also has to do with why I’ll never put fake icicles on the tree ever again. Two words: Poop necklaces.

Your tree is very cool, though. I love your bottlecap ornaments!

Sweet moses, you’re hilarious. I’m seriously holding back laugher as I sit here at my desk – seeing that photo of the santa cat? PRICELESS. Right now I’m the awkward person drying my eyes and trying to act normal.

I don’t think you can know just how much that made my morning. You are amazing.

    🙂

PS: The decorations look lovely! I still envy your green wall and fireplace. Seriously.
