Love, Mom
This is an email my mom sent me on Saturday, marking two weeks until my wedding. See where I get my sense of humor? Mom’s a great writer… she should start her own blog.
My Dear Renee,
It really hit me today. In just two weeks, you’re getting married. Two weeks. That’s all the time I have to write something poignant, heartfelt, memorable. Some words of wisdom from your mother. Really, do I have any?
I guess I’ll start from your beginning. April 14, 1986. My world as I knew it was about to change. I held you in my arms for the first time and thought you were the most beautiful person I had ever seen. I know, we talked about how all babies look like aliens or something, but you were truly beautiful. I was the happiest I had ever been, but scared as hell. Could I be a decent mother?
As you grew, there was always new territory for me to stumble through. My priority was to make sure you were happy and given every opportunity to experiment and achieve. You have been my life, my hope, my joy, my purpose in life. You made my life complete. I thank God everyday for you. I also pray for your happiness each day.
I know your life has not been all sunshine and rainbows. I will take the blame for a lot of that. But I hope you will look back and know I tried my best. I want you to do what makes you happy. Be where you are happy. Live the life that makes you happy. You can do anything. You are brilliant, beautiful, kind, passionate and hilarious. Don’t lose that zest for life!
And now you are about to be a wife. Wow. Where did the time go?
Joe will have his hands full! But he knows that by now. He balances you very well. I love him. I know he will always be there for you. You found a keeper! He now takes over the reins to calm your fears, dry your tears and share your joy. I’ll still be there in the wings when you need a mommy!
Thank you for being a wonderful daughter, friend, confidant and my source of joy.
Now, go dry your tears and I’ll dry mine.
I love you!
oh my heavens. that was beautiful. *sniff*
Aaaand, then I was teary before lunchtime. What a wonderful note. 🙂
Oh goodness – your momma is CHARMING. I love this. She does need a blog. Or at least a weekly feature here in the Reneeborhood. Happy wedding, again!
Aw, that was the sweetest email of all time. Your mom sounds amazing! Congrats on your big day!
*sniffle* That was so sweet!
Hi I just came across your blog. What an exciting time for you! Aww, a heartfelt letter from your Mom.
That’s such a sweet, beautiful letter… tearing up!
Oh man your mom is a great writer. This made me tear up for sure! See you FRIDAY! 🙂
So very sweet! In my family my mom is NOT the sentimental one–my dad is! I love this note!
Goosebumps. Tears.
Ah, I’m such a sappy person.
What a great mom you have and what a letter/email to treasure!
Do you need any kleenex?
That is so incredibly sweet. My father sent me one email a day, every day for week before my wedding, naming one thing he loved about me. Parents can be pretty okay every now and again.
So wonderful! My mom wrote me a beautiful/funny email on one of my birthdays that I posted on my blog. My dad also wrote me a beautiful email before my wedding and while we were kind of disagreeing on things. That one was too personal to me to post.
On another note, I cannot believe you are getting married so soon! How exciting!
Aww that’s so sweet. It’s always wonderful to see a mother active in her daughter’s life. Your mother would definitely make a good blogger.
I’m new to your blog.. but this post made me cry. Completely beautiful – and how exciting for you, congratulations!
….. And that made ME cry and it’s not even my mom! Holy crap I’m going to be a mess whenever I get married!
Ooh! I just saw Apricot’s advice post about your wedding and I wondered what your actual date was. From this post, it sounds like you’re getting married on the same day as I am! THIS. FREAKING. SATURDAY! Are you as excited as I am? I’m like…freaking out with both excitement and last-minute stress. Anyway, hope you have a great, relaxing week before your big day!!
-Tabitha
Awwww that is so sweet!

That was a sweet, touching e-mail your mom sent you. I can see my mother doing the same thing. 🙂
