Another election year
I’ve been a bit mum about the 2012 election. Part of me isn’t too worried about President Obama. Part of me is all, “Well, if Romney wins, it’ll still be okay. He’s smart enough, qualified, he can’t be all bad. “ And, isn’t that how I should feel? The folks running for president aren’t sworn enemies, right? We should genuinely respect anyone willing to serve the country in that capacity. No, I don’t have to agree with every president on every policy; I doubt that’ll ever happen. But if I believe the candidate has the country’s best interests in mind? Well, I just can’t actively hate them. I plan to vote against Romney should he be the Republican candidate, but that doesn’t mean I have to despise, belittle, and curse him, right? He wouldn’t be so bad.
But then I read this.
Aw, come on now. Really? You had to go there? You had to make those of us who are just scraping by, trying to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, trying to live the American dream, playing by the rules and making all the right choices and being blessed with all the right opportunities but STILL struggling… you had to make us look like jealous fools?
Now that’s disappointing.

Yeah. I’m… with you on this. I was feeling very “hey, none of these people are… completely off their rocker so I would be okay with anyone winning” then I started really… reviewing the things I feel are important- social issues especially and realized that there is a big difference between settling for someone and being confident in someone. Couple that with recent comments by Mitt and Santorum and I begin to see how much I DO actually care who wins. Because 4 years with a President who disagrees with me on big issues such as health care and gay marriage is a LONG 4 years. And in 4 years, so much progress can be undone. Officially caring more now than ever before.
And yes, I also find it strangely weird that I care so much about this, considering that I do not even live in the States.
It makes me wish more than ever that President Bartlet was real. There is one Republican candidate that I thought I would be “okay” with, but he still believes in so many things that I don’t and I still worry about how much progress will be undone.
Sigh.
I have the utmost respect for the office of the President, and it’s saddening to me that a candidate for that position does not have the same respect for the people he wants to serve. I, too, intend to vote against him in the general election, but I honestly hope that whoever the Republican contender turns out to be will challenge President Obama to the the best candidate he can be as well. At this point, I’m not sure it’s going to happen.
Oh Romney makes me want to gag a little. He was my governor in Massachusetts (I think I actually voted for him). And he did nothing but mess things up. I really don’t want to see him be President. I think he is quite ignorant. What is up with politians lately?
This year in politics (and I mean this election cycle, really) has been ridiculous. And disappointing. The things that come out of the mouths of these candidates has made me extremely disappointed in humanity. That people believe some of this things, really trying believe some of the racist, sexist and classist things that have been makes me fear for the sanity of the American mind.
Fingers crossed for Obama!
