Bucket List

Tasks to accomplish before I kick the bucket:

  • Experience weightlessness
  • Meet President Obama
  • Swim with dolphins
  • Visit the Neuschwanstein castle in Germany
  • Maintain a compost pile
  • Tour the White House
  • Show the boy around my neighborhood in Rome
  • Work for a women’s rights organization
  • Have dinner with someone famous that I admire
  • Visit Greece
  • Perfect a variety of granola recipes
  • Go on a cruise
  • Play the leading lady in a musical, even if it’s just a community theatre
  • Manage my own business
  • Become that person who knows everyone
  • Have a cherry tree in my yard
  • Pay off my student loan debt
  • Become an expert in something
  • Go to a taping of my favorite show
  • Ride on AirForce One
  • Record a CD
  • Dedicate one room to books and coffee
  • Own a great camera and learn how to use it
  • Visit Sagrada Familia in Barcelona after it is complete
  • Visit all 50 states and 20 countries (Current Tally: 23 states, 10 countries)
  • See a Banksy in person
  • Enjoy a mint julep at the Kentucky Derby
  • Shoot a gun
  • Learn to play golf
  • Have my fortune told
  • Dye my hair an unnatural color
  • Save someone’s life
  • Learn to play a song on a guitar
  • Go fishing wearing waders
  • Stick my toes in all five Great Lakes (Michigan [childhood], Huron [August 2010], Superior [August 2010])
  • Eat a Ju(i)cy Lucy at Matt’s Bar or the 5-8 Club in Minneapolis
  • Attend a game of every professional Chicago sports team (Bears, Cubs)
  • Play with a tiger cub or lion cub
  • Learn how to code

Accomplished tasks:

  • Get my degree (B.A. in Women’s Studies and Communication Studies, May 2008 )
  • Donate my hair to Locks of Love (June 2007 & January 2010)
  • Read a book in one sitting (The Secret Life of Bees, January 2009)
  • Go to a concert where I know all the words (Josh Groban, June 2004)
  • Get a massage (May 2008 )
  • Backpack across Europe (April 2006)
  • See the chandelier in the Paris Opera House as featured in The Phantom of the Opera (April 2006)
  • Visit a country where I can communicate in the mother tongue (Italy, January-May 2006)
  • Visit Spain (Barcelona, February 2006)
  • See Billy Joel in concert (Wrigley Field, July 2009)
  • Get married (August 8, 2009)
  • Get paid to write something (January 2010)
  • Grow my own herbs and vegetables (peppers, tomatoes, mint, dill, thyme, basil, chives, & catnip; Summer 2010)
  • Tour the Leinenkugel’s brewery (August 2010)
  • Take an improv class at a famous Chicago improv studio (Second City Adult Immersion program, January 2011)
  • Drink a bloody mary (January 2011)
  • Go to a movie by myself (Hanna, April 2011)
  • Get my Masters degree in… anything (M.A. in Communications, May 2012)

Accomplished tasks that weren’t on the initial list but totally should have been because I’m really proud of them:

  • Drive in a Presidential motorcade (March 2008 )
  • Meet Jon Stewart (May 2005)
  • Become a godmother (September 2006)
  • Make Deans List (Spring 2007, Fall 2007, & Spring 2008 )
  • Be interviewed on television (February 2008 )
  • Cook better than my mother-in-law (her words, December 2009)
  • Graduate with a 4.0 GPA (May 2012)

    I got to visit Neuschwanstein on my honeymoon, it was absolutely breathtaking. The area around the castle is simply enchanted. We never wanted to leave!

    Awesome list! A few of my things are on here and a few of yours I may think about and add to mine!

    I believe everyone should experience a cruise. I loved it! Mine was Monday evening to Friday morning to Ensenada, Mexico. We also stopped at Catalina Island.

    Next year I’m planning on going to an Alaskan cruise! I also heard a cruise to Hawaii is nice because they take you to all the different islands.

    I’ve been wanting to write a blog for some time now and am finally trying to gather my thoughts. I stumbled across yours and am glad! Many things similar to my bucket list, good luck with the rest of yours!
